20 to 49 employees
If you have 20 to 49 employees, the following laws apply to your size of organization.
 
Age Discrimination in Employment Act
This law prohibits discrimination against older workers.
COBRA
This law requires most employers to offer group health continuation coverage rights to persons whose insurance would otherwise end due to a "qualifying event."
American with Disabilities Act
This law prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities.
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
This law prohibits employers from discriminating against any job applicant or employee on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
Employee Polygraph Protection Act
This law regulates the use of lie detector and other types of electronic “honesty tests” as a condition of hiring or as a basis for employment decisions.
Equal Pay Act
This law prohibits sex-based wage discrimination between men and women in the same establishment who are performing under similar working conditions.
Employee Retirement Income Security Act
This law is designed to protect the rights of employees and the security of their retirement benefits.
Fair Credit Reporting Act
This law regulates the use of credit reports to investigate workers or job applicants.
Fair Labor Standards Act
This law defines the 40-hour workweek, covers the federal minimum wage, sets requirements for overtime and recordkeeping, and places restrictions on child labor.
HIPAA
This law protects the health coverage of people who switch from one job to another or who leave their jobs without taking another job.
Immigration Reform and Control Act
This law prohibits the employment of illegal aliens and requires employers to verify the legal status and right to work of all new hires.
Occupational Safety and Health Act
This law requires employers to maintain a workplace that is free of hazards.
USERRA
This law prohibits discrimination against persons on their service in any uniformed service and applies to public and private employers.
Workers’ Compensation
This law is an employer-financed, no-fault insurance program that compensates employees who have been disabled because of a work-related injury or accident.
WHCRA
This law contains protections for patients who elect breast reconstruction in connection with a mastectomy.
